This beautifully queen size bed features a carved head and foot board. It is made of solid teak wood. The dimensions are 89"L x59"Wx85"H. The 10 solid teak slats are 21" high. Included are two 27 ' bolsters and white canopy to fit high frame, all from India.

"The style of this bed dates from 1840 until 1947 (Indian Independence). The beds were constructed for the British Raj, and the British Military in Colonial India. They were designed to collapse and be transported "flat pack" so they could easily be moved while in military exercises and to summerhouses in the hill stations. They were made when the Raj was at its height. They were made from the finest wood. Teak was used extensively in the construction of these beds because it had the advantage of only initially expanding and contracting when exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity. These teak wood beds were resistant to termites and the occasional splash of seawater." (Yolagray Antiques)
